Transportation |
| |
Bus
transportation is available for all
elementary and middle school students. Each student is
assigned to one bus which services
his/her residence. A request for a
change of assignment may be made in
writing to the principal. This
request may be made for either a
previously designated stop on the
assigned route or a bus on another
specified route within the same
district. If approved a new bus
assignment would replace the bus
stop or the bus assignment on the
route for the residence. Children
should go home on their assigned bus
and leave the bus at the designated
stop.

Kindergarten School Bus Orientation at John Curtis Library (2011-2012) |
| |
Each year, during the week before school starts, the library hosts a school bus orientation program for children entering kindergarten. Children meet a bus driver and go for a ride, to help ease the transition to taking the bus to school
Children and their parents are invited to come to the library about a half hour before the bus is scheduled to arrive, to listen to stories about riding the school bus. When the bus comes, children board and meet the driver, who instructs them on school bus rules. They then go for a brief ride, stopping at both elementary schools. most children ride on their own, but if a child is particularly anxious, a parent is welcome to go along. The children's librarian also goes on the ride to provide supervision and reassurance as needed.
The library has been hosting this even for about nine years, and attendance increases each time. Parents whose children have participated in the orientation say that it is very helpful in familiarizing children with the bus routine before school starts. This is a drop-in program; registration is not required.
The date for this year's program is August 25, 2011.
- 10:30 AM: A story time about school buses
- 11:00 AM: INGLE BUS CO. has volunteered to have the students board a bus and actually go for a ride to their new school Cedar or Center School and return to the Library.
